BIO

Jihyun Ra is a Chicago-based artist who primarily works in painting. Ra holds a bachelor’s

degree in fine arts from the prestigious Hong-Ik University in Seoul, Korea, and is a MFA

candidate in Art History from the same institution.

Born and raised in Korea, and later immigrating to the United States to start a new life, Ra’s

artworks reflect her observations and experiences as an immigrant in a diverse and multicultural

society. Through the intricate layering of various textures, colors, and patterns, she creates a

harmonious visual representation on canvas, mirroring the unity sought within our society

among individuals from different backgrounds. Her reflection on diversity is expressed on the

canvas through the meticulous details. Ra’s artworks are visually captivating while also delving

into thought-provoking themes.

In 2022, she made her debut in the United States with a solo exhibition titled ‘United in

Diversity’ at Air Studio in Glencoe, IL. She has been participating in numerous group

exhibitions, showcasing her talent and perspective. Recently, Ra was selected as an artist for

the “Back To the Scene” program by the OH Art Foundation. This program is dedicated to

empowering female artists of BIPOC backgrounds who have strong artistic foundation but have

been disconnected from the art scene for various reasons such as immigration and family

obligations, aiming to reintegrate them into the art world and assist in reestablishing their

presence. Ra looks forward to the next chapter of her artistic journey.
